July to December 2002
| Ray vs. Riddick? Thanks to Spookyjo for passing along a fun nugget from AICN. Apparently a reader was at a screenwriter's thing presided over by master Twohy, and it seems like someone was shilling the idea to him of using former Darth Maul and Headless Horse-ass-kicker-Man Ray Park to face off against Riddick. I could see a cool fight between Park's fluid kineticism and Vin's solidity... that'd be pretty good stuff.
| | Twohy speaks Twohy took a break from beating his production designer with whips to talk to a couple different sites about how things are coming along with Riddick. You can read the full deal on JoBlo, but here are the highlights:- they're in preproduction
- The script is done
- The name is currently "The Chronicles Of Riddick"
- Twohy is plotting the other two movies
- Their shorthand for the three movies is C1, C2, and C3
- These movies will be "action/adventure/sf", not horror/sf like Pitch Black
- The upcoming movie(s) will have a different scope than Pitch Black did
- NO CASTING other than Diesel. Sorry Ja Rule.
- TCOR will shoot in Vancouver, not Australia.
- Estimated 750 to 800 effects shots (PB had 225)
- Twohy is going to explore theology somehow
CHUD coverage My favorite movie-community site CHUD tossed up a little information about Riddick, consisting mainly of a one-sheet we've seen before and some fun tidbits about how the marketers are trying to make this whole thing work. A sequel almost completely unrelated to a movie that only made a small amount of money after almost getting dumped straight to video? Yeah, the suits are going to be earning their keep on this one.
Below You might like Vin Diesel, and you might like Tatoupoulis' beasties, but David Twohy was the guy who brought all that together into the kickass Pitch Black package. The director delivered the goods on a pretty tight budget, and should be high up on the list of people to watch for genre fans. As a result, make sure to check out Twohy's latest movie, Below. An atmospheric thriller set on a submarine, Below cranks up the tension and tosses in some supernatural elements to keep you guessing. Who wouldn't like that? Go cast your vote for Twohy for president if you can still find the movie in theatres.
Knockaround Guys Anyone who's generally interested in pitching in and helping make sure that the upcoming Riddick series is a success should consider how important Vin Diesel's bankability is. The bigger that guy becomes, the better chance Riddick will rock and deliver sequels, keychains, and action figures. With this in mind, make sure to swing by a theater near you and check out Vin's latest flick Knockaround Guys. Word has it that it's a great little gangster/caper movie, plus I'm pretty sure Vin wears tanktops the whole time.
Archived news The first bunch of news items ever posted on PitcherBlacker.com have been archived, to make way for hopefully new and improved and slightly- more- often- than- once- every- four- months updates. Archive link on the way.
Site status Visitors please note that this site should be considered active, despite the current frequency (well, lack thereof) of updates. With Pitch Black having come and gone and Riddick being a long ways off still, there is little in the way of community activity around the franchise. Few eyeballs means little reason for me to put out content.
At some point the promotion of the upcoming movie will begin to ramp up, meaning more and more people searching for Riddick-related webstuff. That's the time when things will start happening more on this site. Until then I've got plenty of free-time things to get out of my system before buckling down and being married to PitcherBlacker.com, so no need to visit daily. Feel free to drop me a line here; it's always cool to hear how and why people swung by.

| | Happy xXx Day Well, today's the day that Pitch Black alum Vin Diesel gets himself another notch in the old six shooter, as his latest flick TripleX is showing up in theaters as we speak. Anyone really looking forward to three more PB movies should be aware that they're all dependent on Big Vin's starpower now, so steal 8 bucks from Grandma and head out to the theaters and vote for Riddick. Not to mention this looks like a pretty kickass movie in it's own right. "I want all that... in here."
Post xXx review:WELCOME TO THE XANDER XONE. Congrats to the entire crew, that's one hell of an action movie!
How PB almost went straight to video One of the AICN honchos Moriarty tossed up an xXx review today that contains considerable information about the first time he and Harry Knowles got their screening for Pitch Black that apparently cured cancer or whatever. According to Twohy and Ken Wheat, the enthusiasm these two showed for the film on AintItCoolNews.com was a really important reason that the film actually got a theatrical release. Good stuff... too long to quote here, so make sure to check out the article.
A Vin/TCOR story Massawyrm, one of the reviewers over on AICN, posted up an xXx review yesterday, which included a short story about when he bumped into Vin Diesel in a club right after Vin had signed the 11 million clam deal for TCOR. Vin Smiled and asked “So I guess you heard the news, huh?” No. What news. I’d been without a computer for four days. I knew no such thing as news. “Chronicles of Riddick” he said. “It’s a go?” I asked elatedly “It’s a go. Just signed this morning.” Now this was extremely cool news to me, made even more glorious by the source through which I learned of it. He proceeded to hit full fledged geek out mode talking about just how cool it was going to be. “It’s gonna be about the mythology,” He kept saying. It was obvious he was just as excited to talk about it as I was.
| | | PB Caps section finished Finally got the rest of the screen captures of Pitch Black finished. 117 more images have been posted, for a total of 162. I told myself I wasn't going to get carried away... but I got carried away.
Enjoy
VD@MTV Krizsta was nice enough to point me towards a link on MTV.com where they got a few quotes from Vin Diesel repeating the same info as at SciFi below.
| | | Vin@Sci Fi Wire Spotted this article on SciFi.com (by way of Coming Soon) where Vin Diesel talked a small bit about the upcoming movies. Quick summary:- Title of first movie is THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK
- There will be *no* prequel; Pitch Black was the prequel to the new movies
- Twohy is writing the story for the movies
I thought that was interesting, the concept of the audience rooting for a guy who's been prejudged, ruled out and given up on and misrepresented. The idea of us judging this guy, Riddick, by his actions, as opposed to his past, is interesting to me.
| | | Buy a Pitch Black 2 promo This is extremely cool... someone got a hold of one of those Pitch Black 2 promotional flyers and is selling it on ebay. Click Here. Nice little collector's item!

Japanese Pitch Black 1 poster Just thought this was kinda neat.

Slow news day? Just a quick note to any visitors that happen to cruise by that I'm not currently spending much time on the site since there isn't much public info on Pitch Black 2 yet. Once activity starts to ramp up on that front, then I'll start doing more around here... until then there won't be many visitors, so no real point. For constantly updated news, your best bet is VinXperience. As long as you REALLY like Vin Diesel, that is :-)
