Are you ebayed of the dark?
Spotted a few interesting things up for grabs on Ebay... Item 1 is a replica of Kyra's "sweet spot" scissor weapon used in Crematoria. The scoop:
This is a replica of one of the many knifes used in the movie . But this is a replica of the Knife that Kyra pulls on Riddick on Planet Crematoria and ask Riddick " should I go for the sweet spot " . It is 6 1/4 inches long and 2 7/8 wide , The top handle is made of wood but the rest is made of resin . It is non-working . Painted gray and black , the tips is sharp so it is not for the kids.
$38 minimum for that one. Next up is a $3,200.00 toy... the full Necromonger Commander costume worn by Toal. Comes with a rubber stunt rifle.

New Riddick's Redemption images
Man, I am way behind in posting the cool images Fernando Dominguez has sent me from costume tests for his short film Riddick's Redemption (by the way, that's a link to a page I've put together full of information from the film, if you haven't seen it yet). This recent set shows off his mirrored contacts and the Predator head sculpt by Javier Murcia.

Fernando Dominguez as Riddick

Take a look at the movie info page for nine more images, all at the bottom of the stack of thumbnails there.

On deck are some costume tests for what would be a Butcher-Bay related short film Fernando would like to work on next. Also, for more pictures and a discussion with Fernando himself, check out this massive thread at VinExperience. Be warned that that thread is about what you'd expect if you turned an almost-perfect Riddick replica loose with a digital camera on the VX forums... similar to if I had forums and there was an almost perfect Christina Cox!

Riddick Vs Necro
Got some fannish goodness in my Inbox today courtesy of Chris Arnold. This is a photo of him as Riddick facing off against Dave Barkovitz in the Necromonger armor at the Atlanta DragonCon. One Step, One Kill!

Somebody's gonna get hurt one of these days...
...It ain't gonna be me.

The original screen used stunt baton Cole Hauser used is available! Six years after the film was released, there are STILL props available out there!

...extra cool considering it's the only piece of hardware that EVER put Riddick down and kept him down.

Twice.

An ID on the baton was easy. It's an ASP 21" Telescoping Impact Baton.

News archive rebuilt
So I decided that after a lot of years, having a single page with every news item I've ever posted on it was probably not the way to go. Hence, the new News Archive, where you can access specific time periods in smaller chunks. I've got further revisions planned, but this will have to do for now.

Rebuilding the news archive
Bear with me, I'm doing some stuff to organize the whole screwy way I've had the site's news and archives setup. Hopefully this will make life a little bit easier for site visitors, although realistically it will just be another example of how half-assed this site is built :).

Site downtime
Been alternating trips out of town with punishing Real Life (and employment) workload, causing anything hobby related to get pushed low on the priority list. PitcherBlacker isn't dead, just holy half-dead. 'Stuff' is in the works, so bear with me.

     AFK - 1 week posted September 5th, 2006
I'll be away from the keyboard for a week, so there will be no PitcherBlacker updates for a while. Details on my blog. See ya on the other side.

New pics of Fernando's Riddick posted September 1st, 2006
What, it's been two days since we've last seen pictures of Fernando Dominguez's muscles? Oh no! I do believe I'll fix that right now.

These are pictures Fernando sent me of photo tests of the goggles, chains, and cuffs. Larger size versions of these plus a few more have been added to the Riddick's Redemption information page.

     A TCOR Webgame: Riddick's Revenge posted September 1st, 2006
Ah, PitcherBlacker only revived a month or so and already I'm stealing all my news from VX. This latest heist is for a webgame put together to promote some DVD or other. Check out the game, of course quite simplistic but still kinda fun, here.

     Twohy's Site posted September 1st, 2006
Y'know, it's funny. In the eighteen months where I had shut PitcherBlacker down, I actually updated the site more often than Twohy updated his. Ah well, he was working on about two million dollars worth of scripts, so I suppose I can cut him some slack.

Anyway, one post was about another of his jealousy-inducing vacations, but the most recent is also the most interesting. It is here that he acknowledges something that I have been bothered by; namely, that the Riddick "box set" leaves a lot to be desired. I even emailed him about if we can ever expect to see scripts and storyboards and other extras, and his reply was that he doubted this would happen. Too bad.

The only silver lining is that, knowing even Twohy doubts this stuff will ever get used, the people out there that worked on the movie and have these assets might be willing to, ah, 'share'... I'll see what I can dig up.

PITCH BLACK quiz/test thingy posted August 30th, 2006
First spotted by me via waimeawahine, who got it from VX, is a quiz at Box Office Prophets: How Well Do You Know: Pitch Black. Please note that, as correctly pointed out by waimeawahine, some of the answers are slightly incorrect. But an L for effort!

New Riddick props at The Propstore posted August 30th, 2006
Readers will be excited to know that for only $120 they can own something that touched Vin Diesel! Check out two new items that have been posted up at The Propstore, the only place I know of that still regularly obtains and sells Riddick props (too bad they aren't interested in getting any Land of the Dead props, damn them).

One item is a Lord Marshal stunt outfit for over four grand, the other is Vin's chair back from the Pacifier (ok, not exactly a Riddick item, but still...). Get to shoppin'. Tons of older Riddick props still available here, and now that I'm looking they have added a ton of cool stuff recently. OMG the Kyra mouth blade, Peter!

More fanfilm details and media posted August 27th, 2006
The guys from RIDDICK'S REDEMPTION were nice enough to load me up with a bunch of great new stuff.

Fernando Dominguez as Riddick

I've updated the film's info page with details on cast, crew, location, new behind the scenes photos, and three posters. Take a look.

Fanfilm trailer caps posted August 24th, 2006
I've got a bunch of new information on Fernando Dominquez' Riddick fanfilm and I'll get that posted when I can, but in the meantime I wanted to get some caps from the teaser video posted up as soon as I could. So, click already!.

And if you didn't know there was a trailer, then after checking out the caps you can watch them in action here.

PITCH BLACK HD-DVD review posted August 24th, 2006
I think it's very unlikely that even one of the PitcherBlacker readers has an HD-DVD player, but what the hell... news is news. Here's the review at DVDFile.
Vin Diesel creates one of the most memorable anti-heroes in recent memory. His towering stature, deep voice, and commanding presence turn what could have been a laughable character into a villain that looks like he can kick ass and take names with one hand tied behind his back, and does. Diesel's chemistry with costar and antagonist Cole Hauser is also strong, and the two's constant sparring enlivens the generally by the numbers alien action.
Unsurprisingly, the conclusion is that Universal has put together a PITCH BLACK HD disk that looks great except for a few small artifacts and has all the same extras. And, if anyone's counting, this is the eighth Region One PB SKU. Not bad for a $23 million dollar flick that almost went straight to video, even if it is too bad we won't ever see new supplements for this movie or it's big brother.

Replica boot knife on Ebay posted August 24th, 2006
Spotted an interesting prop replica for sale on the E that at least one visitor has purchased and been pretty happy with. Thanks to Nick for sending in this item and giving a bit of info:
Its not bad for the price. The only thing is that he spray paints it so when you receive it, it'll smell to high heavens but after a while it goes away.

This is a resin replica of the knife that Riddick pulls from his boot at the start of the Crematoria fight. The current bid is $25UDS plus $8 for shipping. The knife is 13" long, is made of solid resin, and is sharp.

Riddick Fanfilm! posted August 23rd, 2006
Big news! On Saturday I was contacted by Fernando Dominguez, the writer and (I'm assuming here) director of Riddick's Redemption, a fan-made short film. I'll be chasing down more information from him about his film which I believe was shot in Tenerife, but in the meantime here's the plot synopsis, some stills, and then links to see the teaser!

Riddick returns back to loneliness and isolation after defeating the Necros. You can see him training in a cave in a new planet, Nivaris 6 (near the Aquila System attacked in TCOR).

Meanwhile, on the surface of the planet, a group of bountyhunters from Wolf 5 chase him for a 2.000.000 UD bounty that Hoxie put on him after his escape from Butcher Bay. Riddick shows his guerrilla warfare skills and hunts the group.
Fernando has put up a post about the trailer, which includes an imbedded streaming version of the video, a link to it on YouTube, and a version for download (I can't get the d/l to work, email me if you did...).

I'll be chasing down more information as I go, along with posting up HUGE versions of the pictures above once I get a chance. Make sure that you leave a comment on his site once you've taken a look at the pictures and video.

Kyra knife at the Propstore posted August 15th, 2006
Not that you'd actually be able to get any of these props before the Necromonger Legion snapped them up, but still... The Propstore of London continues, even this many years later, to put tons of great props and stuff from TCOR up for sale. Hell, some of them are even so reasonable that your friendly neighborhood painfully cheap fanpage webmaster snagged one.

This time they've got a neat toy... the little prison scissor dagger that Kyra uses on Riddick when they first meet up. And it's only many hundreds of dollars!

     Sicher.org posted August 10th, 2006
Spotted something very cool... the blog of Mikael Säker, one of the Starbreeze developers that worked on BUTCHER BAY. Mikael filled the following functions on the game:
Game Design, Additional Scripting, Lead Writer, Written by, Additional Script Composition and Consultation
which is a pretty tasty set of stuff to have gottent to contribute.

His blog is an interesting spot for reading about high-level design issues. Here are a couple highlight posts that mention RIDDICK:
  • Notes on Façade"When making Riddick, we talked a lot about AI and what features of AI that is important. Our discussions boiled down to the idea that the state of an AI is meaningless if it does not communicate what it is doing, feeling or is up to very clearly to the player. For example, a guard who is on alert must show that to the player (this is why the AIs of Metal Gear emits the famous exclamation marks)."
  • Character Impersonation "In "Riddick", we avoided cinematics where we could (without hurting the game) and moved many elements of the story into the in-game experience."
  • The weird nature of videogames"For example, the game "Riddick" for the Xbox is playable on the Xbox only. I honestly don't think that it will ever be playable on the 360 (unless a port somehow gets made). Microsoft have great troubles making Xbox games run on the 360 and there are a number of games that do weird tricks with the hardware that is extremely hard to emulate. So in 10 years, I believe "Riddick" will be hard to play unless you have an Xbox stuffed into a cupboard somewhere." (Ed. Or if you play games on a PC with good backwards compatibility, like you should)
Back in town; back in action? posted August 7th, 2006
Ok, let's see what kind of stuff I can get going again. I've got ideas, but frankly I'm a little rusty so updates may not be all that steady right away. Bear with me.

TCOR knife section posted July 27th, 2006
This isn't particularly polished yet, but so far I'm conquering my urge to perfect every little thing and therefore have each update need six to eight hours of work. So welcome to the decidedly unpolished but still chock full of great info
The Shivs of The Chronicles of Riddick section
brought to you by longtime site contributor and champion Peter. I've got more plans for this, but it'll have to wait until I survive the family vacation.

See everyone in a week.

     Tinkering July 27th, 2006
Just to prove that I'm not playing Prey in my spare time, I've been tinkering with the site. Changes include a permalink to the News page from the side menu, and a custom 404 page for the thousands of people who are apparently finding bad links to this site. Now hopefully they can find their way to something good.

Shiv section progress July 25th, 2006
Slow-ish going, but I'm making some progress on the standalone TCOR shiv section. One of the interesting things over the years has been how much email I've gotten related to RIDDICK knives, so it's been great for the site that Peter came along with all the research and knowledge. Hopefully having a much more detailed section will allow the blade enthusiasts something to chew on. And since there are still some knives we haven't been able to find any production source on, we need input from some of you knifers!

I'll be out of town next week but will get this section polished and posted before I leave hell-hot Phoenix to go roast in San Diego.

Nerd Network's Site of the Week July 20th, 2006
Noticed that a week before I decided to start updating again, the Nerd Network listed PitcherBlacker as their Website of the Week.
This site may be retired but its still a goldmine for any Riddick fan. News archives on all the releases, screen caps and scripts from both feature films along with loads of information on all aspects of this fascinating world. Definately check it out for the interviews.
Nice that people were still finding things to enjoy on the site, even when it was still retired.

TCOR FAQ Update July 18th, 2006
A big thanks go to longtime site collaborator Peter for a bunch of information and link updates for the knife section of the TCOR FAQ. I added some info on top of that to cover the fairly recent release of the "Trilogy" DVD set, and even a little item about the Hayter/Goldsman draft for TCOR. More soon.

     Site Revival July 17th, 2006
Well, whaddya know. A year and a half away and I was starting to climb up the wall with no fansite to keep me distracted, so I'm going to bring the ol' girl back to life somewhat. To begin with I've got a big shiv-related update courtesy of Peter, then some other odds and ends. After that I'll probably start chasing down new feature content.

I'm thinking that sanity lies in more long-form articles that I can put out maybe once a week, rather than the daily news update hamster wheel. Time will tell, but for now that's the plan.

I tossed up a link to my hobby blog over on the sidebar menu, which is where there will be posts about whatever project I'm working on at the time, which will include the PitcherBlacker-related stuff. Keep an eye there to track progress, and feel free to chime in with any comments you might have.
